Had a chap knock on my door wanting to quote for windows, I explained I was interested but working from home so quite busy. He sent someone back later to measure up but I quickly realised this was a high pressure sales pitch. Salesman sat down and got out all the books and started telling me all these facts and figures about heat loss and how glass is made. I wasn't at all interested in this and neither did I have the time. I politely explained I just wanted him to measure and quote. He continued to try sales patter during this process and then sat down to work out the prices. For 3 bedroom windows (2 doubles and 1 single) he came back with a ridiculous quote of £4500. I said absolutely no way was that a fair price. He then rang his manager who proceeded to say this was the list price before discounts and surprise surprise the price came down to £1800 which is about what I'd expected to pay. The original price is clearly not a real selling price and is deliberately set high to make it feel like they are doing you a great deal with a discount. Then I got the usual script 'we are working in your area so can offer better discounts' etc. These tactics completely destroyed any trust I had and these inflated initial prices are a massive red flag to me. At this point I said no thanks and gave my honest feedback to the salesman and manager. I said had you have come in with the fair, honest price you were willing to do the job from the start I would have seriously considered signing. Unfortunately they lost a sale and any future business with these outdated, hard sell pressure tactics.
Since then I've had 2 local companies come out, measure up and email me a fair quote with no pressure. Avoid this company like the plague.
