Let me share my story. It was December 31, 2014, in Sri Lanka when I took my first driving practical without any instructor, relying on my father's guidance. He was an excellent driver, but I lacked sufficient theory and planning. I passed, but the examiner advised me to drive more in the jungle than on the roads. That day remains unforgettable. Over time, I continued driving, even though my clutch was problematic.
When I arrived in England, I dreamed of obtaining my license and driving here. I worked with two instructors—one English and one Sri Lankan. Whenever I made a mistake, they would stare at me for nearly half an hour, making me question what I had done wrong. In my opinion, that's not effective teaching; I came to learn, not to be left confused.
After failing once, I decided to wait until I found the right instructor who could help me understand my mistakes while providing practical training. That’s when I found Afzal, a skilled instructor with 30 years of experience, thanks to my friend Hiren. Initially, I wondered if everyone who trained with him passed easily. But no, he first observes you on the first day and conducts a proper crash course. After two weeks, I felt like a real driver, understanding what I was doing right and wrong. What I appreciated most was that he taught rather than just questioned my mistakes. This approach is on another level.
After completing the course, he keeps notes on what to improve until you get it right, sometimes practicing the same route multiple times. But he does it all with laughter and positivity, fixing everything along the way.
Today, I passed with three minor faults. Much of what Afzal teaches is valuable beyond just the exam; we need this knowledge afterward as well. I am grateful for everything and wish him continued success in helping others become respectful drivers. To anyone struggling with their driving license in the UK, I highly recommend meeting with Afzal. You can succeed too!
