I recently got duped by a graphic design website that uses some seriously shady tactics to get you to buy a subscription. At first, I was excited—after all, I paid $72 for a one-year subscription to an online app that promised I could design any logo I wanted. The editor looked great, and the AI features were impressive. It seemed like a fantastic deal at the time. What could possibly go wrong?Well, as it turns out, the design features are actually quite good, but the business model behind it is just plain deceptive. Here’s the catch: when you buy the paid membership, you’re basically paying for the right to download ONE project. Yep, just one logo. That’s it. It’s not like you pay per project, which would at least make sense. No, you’re paying $72 a year for a subscription that gives you access to design just one logo and download it. How absurd is that?If this were a pay-per-project model, I’d at least understand the structure, but no—what they’re offering is a subscription for the privilege of downloading one file. Oh, and if you opt for the monthly payment plan, it’s even more expensive. Honestly, I still can’t wrap my head around it—$72 per year just for one logo download? It's ridiculous.Just to clarify, the app itself is free to use, but unless you pay for the subscription, you won’t be able to actually download your designs. That’s a pretty big detail they conveniently leave out when they market the subscription. The website tricks you into thinking it’s just like any other design platform, where you pay a subscription for full access, but in reality, it’s this convoluted "fake subscription" that essentially locks you into paying for just one download. It’s sneaky and misleading. What really bothers me is how backwards and confusing the entire system is. They don’t make it clear anywhere on the site what you're actually paying for, and by the time you realize it, it’s too late. You’re basically stuck, and that feels like a scam to me.And if you think you can get any help, think again. There’s no phone support, and they don’t respond to emails. I even tried to file a dispute with my credit card company, but no luck there either. Apparently, Design.com doesn’t have any free trial or refund policy, so once you’ve paid, you’re stuck. If you realize the trap after you’ve already committed, tough luck. The frustrating part is that the platform has so much potential. The features are solid, the AI tools are actually quite good, and the app itself is easy to use. If they had just used a more straightforward, fair business model—like charging a one-time fee per design or offering a real subscription with unlimited access—I’d probably be a fan. But instead, they chose this sneaky, deceptive model, and it’s left me completely furious.Bottom line: I can’t recommend this service to anyone. My experience has been a total waste of time and money. If you’re considering buying into this, do yourself a favor and read reviews carefully before clicking that purchase button. This is a case of a good product buried under a terribly misleading business model. Don’t make the same mistake I did—save your money and avoid this scam.
