So, I had initially posted a bad review of direct unlocks for literally taking $100 to unlock a phone (and supposedly the first $27 was to ensure that the phone could be unlocked- they said it could, then later said it couldn't based on an issue they advertise fixing) that never got unlocked. When I asked for a refund, they claimed they *COULD* actually unlock my phone, but it'd cost more money- luckily, they "refunded" me in the form of site credit, so I can enter stage 3 of the bait-and-switch nonsense they call a business... And they left this reply: Reply from Direct UnlocksUpdated Jul 30, 2025Hi there, I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. I understand the process might seem confusing—our checkout page clearly outlines that unlocking an iPhone involves paying for both an Eligibility Check ($28.99) and the Standard Unlock ($68). Since every phone needs an Eligibility Check first, the costs are as displayed before purchase. Your order was cancelled at your request, and we issued a full credit note for the service, which you can use for any future unlocking service. I hope this helps clear things up, and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to assist you.EDIT in response to reply:No, it's not confusing at all- if that were actually how it worked. But see, you intentionally use misleading language to make clients feel like they're wrong, when they're not. In my case, for instance, you're actually insulting my intelligence to act as if I simply misunderstood the "so super complicated" concept of paying $28 upfront to ensure that my device is compatible for unlock, then the rest of the payment later, for the actual service, should that be the case, when in actuality I grasp that completely and the part I take issue with is that, frankly, that is not what happened.First, you trick people with false advertising, stating many different times on many different places on your site that a network or SIM locked device is not ba problem, that you can easily unlock a device in that case, and that's one of the reasons your site exists. So then I pay the $68 to go ahead and have that service done. After literally weeks longer than I was promised, I finally have to search you out, by the way -no one ever contacted me- just to be told that the reason you can't unlock my phone is because of the IMEI / Network lock!!!! And that's not a refund, that is store credit and it's credit that I don't want because I no longer want to do business with a scam website that engages in bait and switch and resorts to straight up lying to its customers in order to do business. So you're saying that before, I paid $28 to verify that you could fix the phone even with the SIM lock being the issue, and I was told that in fact, you could fix it with that being the case. However, magically for no reason whatsoever, now you can't.. but you can if I pay more money? Absolutely not!See, your site also guarantees satisfaction! Otherwise, a refund; not a rebate, not some stupid site credit, but an actual refund and that is what I want - am demanding, or I will literally take this further, because I need that money right now. I can't afford to pay for a service I'm not getting, and frankly, it's illegal to operate a website like yours and if this is how you do business you should not be up and operational... tricking people into paying you money for services that you can't and won't provide.
