We uploaded our songs and everything seemed fine—until we tried to withdraw our earnings. The payment was sent back for unknown reasons, and instead of getting support or a clear explanation, we were charged almost $300 in fees by their payment partner (Tipalti) just because the transfer failed.
The worst part:
DistroKid never clearly tells you what information is wrong. You’re left guessing, fixing things blindly, and hoping it works the next time.
After correcting the issue (with no guidance), we submitted the withdrawal again. Four days later—nothing. When we contacted support, we were told it takes up to 14 business days, which is extremely slow for something that should be straightforward.
Also, the “free” model is misleading. Once you factor in fees, exchange rates, and hidden costs, it’s far from free.
Honestly, I’d much rather pay a commission (like ~9% with CD Baby) and get reliable, transparent, and faster payments.
Very disappointing experience. We will not rely on DistroKid for payouts going forward.
