I used to go to many dollarama stores and buy many everyday items, but not any more. Based on the way I was discriminated against and the type of racial comments that were used against me, as a person of disability and an individual who can not wear a mask due to a medical condition,I will never shop at another Dollarama ever again. Companies like Dollarama are disconnected from the reality of equality for all the masses. Dollarama states that they are committed to providing a barrier-free environment for clients, and to providing our goods and services in a way that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities. When I got to the front of the line, the cashier refused to serve me. There was a line up and only one cashier and the people behind me started making comments. After a few minutes another lady comes to the front and the two have a conversation together. The second lady opens another register to serve me, and the first cashier says "next in line". I inform both ladies that I am a person of disability and I can't wear a mask due to a medical condition, and that I shouldn't be treated like an animal because I am unable to wear a mask. When I entered the store, I informed the store employee standing at the door that I had a medical condition and I was unable to wear the mask, and she said it was fine to shop there.I ask for an explanation for the difference in treatment from other people shopping there, and neither employee provides any response to my question. After I leave the store, I file a Non compliance complaint with the City of Toronto. This is a company that portrays a false ideal of equality and inclusion through their professed Policy of Accessibility, that discriminates against disabled people,by providing one rule for the normal client and a different rule for the disabled person who is not viewed as being a normal human being, and therefore treated differently. The exploitation of disabled people by companies like Dollarama is unprecedented, unrealistic and the speculative manipulation projected by Dollarama, towards the disabled and disadvantaged, shows a complete disregard for any social and moral responsibility towards marginalized groups. Hatred becomes a cost effective business decision that portrays the belief or illusion that you, as a disabled person are significant until they take your money, then they rob you of your basic human rights and your ability to cope in a society where you should not be treated any differently than anyone else. Dollarama is a company that should not be rewarded through illogical interests, and should be held accountable for their attempt to destroy the well being of disabled or marginalized individuals, who are simply trying to exist and lead a normal life, like anyone else. You don't have to take my word for it, just look at the devastation experienced by the poor families whose lives were destroyed when their helpless family members in the Retirement homes across Canada were exterminated in the name of PROFIT. You may not care, but you should.
