Both DOTC trips I’ve been on to Ghana + Barbados have been a blast!! Amazing to meet like-minded South Asians from around the world, all looking to build new connections and memorable experiences together. I will always recommend these trips to anyone looking for a stress-free group trip!
DOTC gets an A++++++ from me! It was my first time ever going to Africa and Kenya and I’m definitely glad I went with them! The itinerary was on point and we got to experience a lot of amazing things without it being overwhelming. Anaya was such a great DOTC host, they literally couldn’t have picked anyone better! She was the youngest person on our trip, yet so fun, outgoing, warm and welcoming, responsible, and just overall a great vibe! Our local guides Martin and Richard were amazing! Truly some of the sweetest people. They took such great care of us and made the trip extra special and fun! All the places we stayed at were great and the people who hosted us were so hospitable and kind 🤎 The people, the food, the activities, the gorgeous wild animals, the fresh tea, the farewell cave restaurant dinner, the resort, the sunset canoe ride, the music, and so on…it was all spectacular! ✨✨✨This was my first time solo traveling outside the U.S. and doing it full on with a group and travel company. It was definitely one of the most memorable trips I’ve been on! 10/10 recommend and I’m totally going on another trip them!
The Desi Island trip in its first season, was well planned at every stage and the thoughtful tasks and branding added to the value. Led by the unique marketing content and enthusiasm generated by Nabila, the vibes of the group and connections with new people was amazing.
A really special way to travel and meet other South Asian people. The trip was organized enough and the mix of people that attended were really great. There were some unique and adventurous experiences that were part of the itinerary and would love to get more cultural exposure as part of it as well.
Amazing experience! First time doing a group trip. Was super nervous at first. But pleasantly surprised at how safe and well organized the trip was. Definitely great for meeting people with a similar background. Every day was planned thoughtfully. Room accommodation was well thought out and clean. 10 out of 10. Would recommend and do it again.
This was singlehandedly one of the most disappointing trips of my life. I would like to emphasize that I wholeheartedly believe in the mission of the DOTC and want it to succeed. I had been looking forward to this trip for literally months. However, this trip was nothing like it was advertised. I understand that they use a third party (TourHero) to plan the trip, but it is hard not to blame DOTC for not verifying the itinerary and accommodations since they are the ones selling this experience to us. Some of the positives of the trip were:- The Riad in Marrakesh and the hotel in Chefchaouen- Camels and ATV rides in the Sahara Desert- The local tour guide was phenomenal. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and a good vibe. - The girls I met on the tripBelow are the negatives:- The hotel in Rabat was nothing like the Riad that was promised- The hotel is Fes had a nice lobby and pool, but that is about it. My room was very poorly lit, had no view, and the bathtub would not drain. Most of the girls had issues with their rooms. Again, they put us in a hotel when a Riad was promised. Considering how expensive this trip was, they really dropped the ball with the accomodations.- The trip clearly had more people than they could handle. They had to put us in hotels instead of Riads bc Riads cannot accommodate 27 people. This trip might have been better if it was 15 people. The planners did not take into account how long it takes to coordinate 27 people. - The trip tried to cover too many cities, which lead to spending 4 days on the bus. Because of this, we could not fully explore any of the locations.- Even through the itinerary had "free time" listed, we were often behind schedule, and therefore had no time to independently explore- Most meals were not covered, but we were forced to eat in expensive touristy restaurants with mediocre food. - There was a host that was supposed to represent DOTC, but it is unclear what her job was. I am happy she enjoyed her trip, but a lot of the other girls (including me) needed to take charge and coordinate logistics, which defeated the whole purpose of paying DOTC. Overall, it’s unfortunate, because Morocco is a beautiful country and had the potential to be a great experience. With better planning and leadership, this could have been a much better trip. TLDR: the guide and girls were great, but the trip itself was poorly organized, and therefore, was not worth the money or the time.
I want to provide this feedback in the hope that it’s taken constructively, as I truly want to see this company succeed. I hope they review it carefully and make the necessary changes to create a better experience for future travelers.I recently joined the girls-only Morocco trip that several other reviewers have commented on, and unfortunately, I share many of the same concerns. From the very start, there were significant issues.CommunicationThere was a severe lack of communication before and during the trip. I learned three days into the trip that emails, a Zoom call, and a WhatsApp group had been sent out prior - none of which I ever received, despite booking eight months in advance and providing my contact information. The company should have ensured that every traveler received this info. On the trip itself, updates were inconsistent and last-minute - often we were given only 30 minutes’ notice to be somewhere, leaving us constantly chasing information.HostingThe local Moroccan guide was absolutely incredible - he managed a large group with professionalism and care. However, the DOTC host’s role was unclear. She did not provide guidance, answer questions, or support the group in any meaningful way, and seemed more focused on spending time with her friends who were also on the trip than on ensuring travelers had what they needed.Group Size & LogisticsWhen I booked, I was told the group would be capped at 15–20 people. Instead, there were 27. This had a ripple effect across the entire trip. We were rebooked into hotels instead of riads, which did not match the promised quality. The oversized group also caused constant delays and made it impossible to follow the itinerary as planned. Several activities that were advertised and included in the cost were skipped entirely, without explanation of how those funds were reallocated.Overall ExperienceAll of us invested significant money, time, and energy into what was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. While I’m grateful for the friendships made and the chance to visit Morocco, the overall experience did not live up to expectations. Many of us left feeling disappointed and that we did not receive the value we paid for.
