I am writing to share my experience regarding an incident that occurred at the Guelph Drive Centre (location DriveTest on Woodlawn: Licensed by the Government of Ontario; not a government office. They are a service provider) involving Examiner #289 and the handling of my son’s recent driving test.Following the test, my son was called into the public waiting room where, instead of being treated with professionalism and respect, Examiner #289 raised her voice and reprimanded him in full view of the entire room. This public outburst was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate for a testing environment where young drivers should feel respected, regardless of their results. While the details of why he did not pass are not the central concern of this complaint, the manner in which he was treated is. Typically, candidates who pass are invited inside, away from the public setting, and there should be no reason why anyone—pass or fail—should be subjected to public embarrassment in this way. You DO NOT treat humans like this. The matter was escalated to the supervising officer. Unfortunately, both myself and my son’s father left with the strong impression that the supervisor was unwilling to listen to our concerns. Instead, he appeared more concerned with defending Examiner #289’s account. When we specifically requested that he speak with her trainee independently, our request was dismissed. This reinforced our sense that our concerns as parents were not being heard or taken seriously. We are deeply disappointed in the lack of accountability, both from the examiner and the supervisor, and the overall dismissive treatment we experienced. This is not the level of professionalism or fairness that the Ministry of Transportation should stand for. This is the dying Canadian standards we all have to deal with these days, sadly. We have requested that this incident be formally investigated and that steps be taken to ensure that no other young driver is subjected to this kind of public humiliation. Furthermore, we have also asked that the Ministry provide us with a clear explanation of how this situation will be addressed, and what measures are in place to ensure professional standards are upheld at the Guelph Drive Centre.Unacceptable!!
