Nowadays most retail businesses are overly warm and friendly to their customers, but not so at this place. From the get go I was made to feel like I was an adversary. I made my booking through an online travel agent. I prepaid for a car rental that was lower than competing big name (Budget/Avis etc) rental companies. When I arrived at the office to get the car I had to show the credit card I used to pay for the booking and also show that the card was actually the one I paid with. So I had to access my credit card app and show that the fee was charged to my account. Then the ACE/Drivo rep scrutinized my personal auto policy and found that I don’t have collision coverage. I said my credit card covers vehicle collision damage and I showed him a copy of the credit card terms. He informed me that they don’t allow “split coverage” so I would have to buy collision through them, at an additional $30/day! Later I learned from the contract the coverage included a $1500 deductible. It seems splitting the coverage is okay when it is split with them. When one is traveling and prepays for the rental car one has limited options. I couldn’t just walk away and abandon my prepaid rental because it was non-refundable. I was unable to reach the online booking agent by phone, so I was forced to pay it, but under protest. I had no other reasonable option. I was given a new Toyota hybrid. But I took pictures of every little nick to make sure I wouldn’t be charged for any possible hint of damage.I say buyer beware! You may be tempted to select their cars because you will be saving a few bucks, but be prepared for a fight with the staff to avoid additional costs.
