I've never had a bad experience with Duke Energy until we decided to put the electricity in my husband's name. My husband doesn't have much credit so we expected his deposit to be a bit high, but not $358 high. On his confirmation page the deposit was only suppose to be $170. He paid the deposit on the first bill but then another $179 was added on the second bill, which made our bill $440! He called and spoke to two agents who couldn't explain why the deposit was so high. But one agent did say the total deposit is $358, so there will probably be another charge of $179 on the 3rd bill. We decided to pay to avoid the late fees. I just wanted to share our experience with anyone who will be signing up with Duke Energy. It is not okay to be charged that much and it seems a bit unethical to charge that much and not be given an explanation for the high deposit.
