My tenant hired Dumbo Moving and Storage for a move into a managed NYC building and paid for a premium insurance package. Unfortunately, the crew damaged the front door and walls during the move.
While accidents happen, their claims handling was completely unacceptable. Because managed buildings in the city have strict Certificate of Insurance (COI) requirements, I had our internal building staff perform the necessary repairs. Instead of simply reimbursing the documented invoice, the company refused. They argued they could have sent their own unvetted handyman for less, ignoring the reality that no managed building in New York will allow an uninsured contractor past the front desk.
They ultimately refused to cover the full cost of a standard, documented repair. If you are moving into or out of a building with strict rules, be warned: they do not respect basic building regulations and will fight you over legitimate damage claims. Save yourself the headache and hire a more professional company.
