Eargo 8 is great!

I’m about halfway through a 45-day trial of Eargo 8 hearing aids and have decided to keep them! Why? Many reasons. For one, customer service is extraordinary; whether you email or call them, they are responsive and professional. Secondly, the documentation and instructional videos are outstanding. I’m a retired technical writer and rarely do I see such clear documentation on what would otherwise be a complex, difficult subject to explain. Finally, the hearing aids themselves are comparable in sound and quality to a $6,000 behind-the-ear set I *almost* purchased from a local hearing aid center. I’m so glad I decided to try Eargo instead!Regarding the sound, I did Sound Match on the Eargo app several times, settled on the one that seemed the best, subsequently kicked up the volume, treble, and bass a bit, and am absolutely loving what I hear. The other evening I stood outside simply marveling at the sounds of crickets and cicadas; I’d not heard anything like that beautiful chorus in a long time.As for fit, I have one ear tip (aka “tulip”) in size Medium in my left ear and one ear tip in size Small in my right, because apparently my ear canals are not identical, which is ok. I realized I had to use two different tulip sizes when I noticed one was working its way out of my ear whenever I ate. As for comfort, I by far prefer these to the over-the-ear style of hearing aid I tested previously, which constantly interfered with the frame of my glasses and even slipped and moved when I was active. A hearing aid in the ear canal does take some adjustment, but I was fine with them after just two days! Now for a few comments, not deal breakers by any means but something I feel compelled to pass on because I had some difficulty in these two areas…1. How do I transfer changes I made on the Eargo phone app to the hearing aids? If you use a gear icon in the phone app to tailor a program’s volume, treble, or bass and want to save the settings:• Be near the charger with your phone and turn on the phone’s Bluetooth (if not already on) to connect to the charger.• When connected to the charger, select Program Sync in the app.• When prompted to do so, place both hearing aids into the charger and wait for the sync to complete.Voila! Once the sync is complete, you have successfully transferred the settings in the Eargo app to your Eargo hearing aids. I love that the changes “stick” and don’t revert to some unwanted default setting later.2. At what level is my volume (or treble, or bass) setting? At present, there is no way to visually SEE a volume, treble, or bass setting on the phone app. Instead, you must press the + button to go up (the word “max” is audible at the top) and the – button to go down (the word “min” is audible at the bottom). This drives me a bit crazy, so I’ve learned to count “min” as level 1, then 2, 3, 4, and “max” as level 5. You can practice this by going up and down the scale, counting “1 (min), 2, 3, 4, 5 (max)” and “5 (max), 4, 3, 2, 1 (min)” until you get the hang of it.Overall, I highly recommend Eargo 8 if you’re reasonably tech savvy, like to experiment a bit, and want to better hear people, music, phone conversations, and tv without straining. As a nature lover, I especially enjoy hearing bird calls, the wind blowing through the Autumn leaves, dogs barking in the distance…and my cat’s purrs. It’s a beautiful world. Enjoy!
