Dead Product, Dishonest Practices, and a Customer Service Nightmare

I’m a professional horticulturist and cut flower grower. I placed a large order of fall-planted bulbs and corms with Easy to Grow for some key garden areas at my farm in July, expecting viable, in-season stock. Instead, I received desiccated, crunchy, dead ranunculus corms — clearly left over from the previous year. They were brittle, shriveled, and completely unsuitable for planting. No matter the sale price, fall-planted corms (or early spring, if you’re in a colder zone) cannot be sold in July from the previous year’s harvest and expected to perform. Just like seeds, bulbs and corms have a viability window — and these were well past it. I raised this issue clearly and professionally, and was ignored.Worse, when I reported the problem (with photos), I was told that wasn’t enough. They refused to accept the dead corms back, and instead demanded that I remove every single corm from every single bag — over 100 corms from a dozen + bags — and photograph them individually. This is not only unreasonable, it’s insulting. If it’s anything like the last time I had to complain (over rotten allium bulbs), I’ll be told one is “missing” or looks “viable,” and offered a partial refund. Sadly, I forgot this was where that had happened. Easy to Grow has a pattern of dodging responsibility and offloading the burden of proof onto the customer. Their “customer service” strategy is to exhaust you into silence. Avoid this company. I’m filing a dispute with my credit card company and will never order from them again. Save yourself the time, money, and aggravation.PS: If you order any of their curated collections, be prepared: they do not ship them bundled or labeled as collections. The packing slip won’t reference what you actually ordered. I intentionally chose curated mixes I planned to plant together, but what I received was a generic box of individually labeled packets (e.g., “Pink Ranunculus,” “White Freesia”) with no indication of which belonged to which mix.If you only order one collection, you might be able to piece it together — but if you order several, you’ll have to dig up the original listings just to identify your order and figure out what’s missing. When I raised this concern, the response was basically, “Yeah, that stinks. Thanks for the feedback.” A thoughtful, professional response would have been: “We’re so sorry — here’s a breakdown of your curated collections and what’s in each so you can double-check your shipment and plan your planting.”
