Disappointing

I decided to join Empower because I needed accountability to stick to my diet and I wanted access to their recipes (if you follow her on Insta you’ll know Emma’s food always looks amazing!). However, my experience with Empower wasn’t great. Firstly, we weren’t off to a good start. I enquired about their services and they arranged a call to discuss my goals. I made it very clear to the guy I spoke to that I only wanted a meal plan. I didn’t want a workout plan as I was already doing another programme and enjoying it a lot. He spoke to Emma and said they’d charge me £105/month for that. I thought that was expensive for only a meal plan but I thought I’d still give it a go. To my surprise, a couple of days later, Emma sent me both a meal plan and a workout routine (which was confusing because it made me question whether or not I was paying extra for something I didn’t need). Strangely enough though, that workout routine didn’t change while I was with them and Emma never mentioned it during our weekly check-ins. Another thing that I thought was strange was the fact that Emma (or whoever makes the meal plans) didn’t respect my preferences that I had specified in the questionnaire they make you fill out before starting the service. Specifically, I asked to have a couple of lattes/coffees a day included in my meal plan and that was completely missed. When I asked about it, Emma just told me to replace them for one of my snacks. Now the coffees didn’t have the same amount of calories/macro breakdown as her snacks, which meant that I had to make those calculations again myself (which is a minor thing but you’d think they’d do that for you for £105 a month, especially as I had specified it in the initial questionnaire). Finally, after a couple of months trying the service I realised I wasn’t getting good value for my money and following the meal plan was affecting my relationship with food, so I tried to cancel. I told Emma that I felt working with Empower was affecting my mental health and that I wanted to cancel before things got worse and work on myself. The first time I mentioned it she convinced me to continue with the service, so I renewed. But after another week I was fully convinced the service wasn’t for me and I spoke to her again and asked her to cancel my plan. This time she said she’d make an exception with me because she usually asks for a note from the doctor if we try to cancel before 3 or 5 months (I can’t remember exactly how long). And that was it for me. Who is this girl to ask for a note from your doctor to allow you to cancel? That was a huge red flag coming from someone who “prides herself” in helping girls who have a bad relationship with food.I have nothing against Emma or Empower and I’m sure they mean well but they need to listen to their clients and put them first. I’ve waited a few months before leaving this review and I actually wasn’t going to do it because I wanted to put my bad experience behind me, but I wish I could have seen a review like this before joining Empower. It would have saved me some money and it would have meant not putting my mental health at risk.
