Having edited on a collaborative platform for over two decades, I have come to value its processes and the dedication of countless volunteers who strive to keep it both relevant and useful. My experience as both an editor and a user has provided me with significant insights. However, I must highlight certain drawbacks, such as the cumbersome editorial process, inherent biases among editors, and the potential for unpleasant interactions when contributing content. These factors have constrained my ability to contribute effectively. I believe this is a key reason why the platform struggles with recruiting and retaining volunteer editors. A small group of contributors tends to dominate article creation, resulting in varying quality, and there is insufficient oversight to maintain high editorial standards. The platform risks becoming less relevant, especially with the rise of AI technologies. Engaging with an AI model for information is often a more satisfying experience than navigating the platform. That said, my journey of editing articles on subjects I’m passionate about has been enriching. I hope the platform can find ways to incorporate AI and enhance the experience for both contributors and users.
