I'm currently living abroad. I came back to this site after 10 years just to post a thread to sell an account. To do that, I was asked to verify my identity. First, I needed to fill in my full name. Then, the site asked for a phone number to send me a code (without making it clear that the phone number had to match the country of the ID document) and of course, I gave them my current country’s phone number. Finally, I completed all the remaining steps in the verification process by providing my passport and facial verification. After almost a day, I got rejected because the phone number and my ID didn’t match. I opened a support ticket to explain and ask for a solution, because there’s no way I can access my home country’s phone number now. The agent handling my case simply replied, “Phone and ID countries must match when verifying, sorry.”I replied again and asked if they could just unlock the phone number change function, so that if I managed to get a phone number from my home country, I could change it and redo the verification process. The answer? I have to wait for the 30-day lock to expire (something I would’ve never known if I hadn’t clicked the change number button).Mind you, I did not manually change the phone number in the phone section, they applied it themselves after I entered it to receive the verification code at the start of the verification process. So I have to wait 30 days for the thing I didn't do. At this point, I just lost my s***.In short, a phone number seems to matter more to them than anything else, even though they already have my personal information and my real face. A matching phone number is apparently so important that I have to wait 30 days to redo the verification and miss the chance to sell? It’s so essential that a passport means nothing compared to it?If I’d known this from the start, I could’ve just borrowed a number from someone back home to get the code and likely get accepted? Only God knows if they’d welcome me back or just want me to lose the account with a paid upgrade that’s still valid for the next 13 years. Man, they weren't like this back then.***Update after the reply: So it's confirmed that everything I wrote above is true.- "Normally we do this by reverifying the phone number on the account." - No one knows this. That’s something you do internally on your site. How do you expect people to know that? And then, at the start of the verification process, why do you even let people enter any phone number to get the code, automatically change that phone number on their profile without notice, and then put a 30-day lock on it? My dude, even banking systems (or literally any other website/forum), if they want to verify users via mobile phone, they just send the code directly to the phone number already linked to the account, right? Not a complete mess like you're doing.- "However, it does not appear you can complete that step, and since you’re from a different country, we have to assume the account might have been compromised." - Yeah right, the person who supposedly stole this account somehow decided to verify it using a phone number from another country, with ID documents from my own country, and with a real face matching the ID. Why wouldn’t they just use a phone number from the same country? Wouldn’t that make it look more legit? Even better, why didn't they just create a new account? Why wasted their time for an inactive for a long time account? Also, since the phone number was changed on my profile now, doesn’t that make “reverifying the phone number on the account” completely useless? LOL- "Depending if your account has other data we can verify, we can try to help you regain access." - This should’ve been discussed when I first asked for a solution in the support ticket, not after several copy pasta from a bot-like agent who handled my case."If there is no other data, then you will have to create a new account. Email alone is not enough." - So basically, it’s confirmed you want me to give up the account. A new account, with the same ID and the same phone number I currently use, and now suddenly I’ll be verified? or will I be in this cycle forever? LOOOL
