I'm genuinely a fan of Evernote at this point, and I say that as someone who's been through the trenches with it.
Let's be real: Evernote v10 in 2020 was rough. It felt like a regression in almost every way that mattered. But the team has done a full 180 since then. They've shipped over 250 improvements, with 100 landing in 2024 and another 110 in just the first half of 2025. That's not just marketing fluff, you can actually feel it when you use the app.
The core note-taking experience is legitimately good now. Slash commands let you drop in tasks, tables, headers, and formatting without losing your train of thought. Collapsible sections are great for keeping complex notes from turning into walls of text. Markdown support actually preserves formatting when you paste content in from other places, which sounds basic but so many apps get wrong. And search finally works the way it should: unlimited results, semantic matching that finds notes based on what you meant, not just exact keyword hits. That alone has been a huge time saver.
They've also built out features that actually make sense together. Calendar integration with native event creation, task management with priority levels and descriptions, real-time collaboration. It means I can keep my whole workflow in one place instead of duct-taping five different apps together. The v11 AI stuff (AI Assistant, Semantic Search, AI Meeting Notes) is surprisingly practical rather than feeling like a checkbox feature.
The performance work is what really sold me though. Sync is up to 300x faster in some cases, mobile note loading is 3x quicker, and the whole app just feels tighter across devices. They're clearly investing in the fundamentals instead of just chasing feature bloat.
Evernote earned my trust back. It went from "I guess I'll keep using this" to something I actually rely on and expect to keep getting better.
While the price has increased, and it is an expensive tool, it is genuinely worth the money, in my opinion.
