We went with Express Bifolds after visiting their impressive Weybridge showroom. The pre-sales experience is good, unfortunately from there it all went substantially downhill with a 3 month delay for a replacement after a manufacturing error, leaving us with serious issues in the interim.
The biggest issue we had was the front door was incorrectly sized and cannot be opened more than about 50 degrees. With a 6 month old, this means we can’t actually get in and out of the house through the front door. I understand errors can occur, but this was installed on 16th Dec and the installation of the replacement is not until 6th March (with significant knock on impact for scheduling builders for follow on work who I had to cancel on), despite repeated chasing before and after Christmas and promises to get back to me with a date. The front door as is has also only been partially sealed, which for December and January has been particularly uncomfortable. Screws were also left all over the driveway after the install.
The sliding doors also have significant issues with cold bridging. Most months you might not notice but given the install was in Dec, it’s easy to feel by touching the outer frame (and then verify with a thermal imaging camera as I did) that it’s essentially the same temperature as outside (e.g. 6 degrees even when it was 19 degrees indoors). With large doors this is enough to make the entire room cold and make it almost impossible for a properly specced heating system to bring the room up to temperature. This is despite them asking you to install compafoam at great (>£500) expense in the cavities. Clearly that is a good idea but if the installation or the product is then substandard and you create the cold bridge the whole way round anyway, it’s a complete waste of money. Despite promises to look into this we heard nothing further from them even after chasing.
