As a long time customer I am really disappointed to discover from personal experience and now from other people's reviews on Trustpilot that "fresh" can mean "frozen" in Farmison's world. Today I had a so called "fresh" 2kg turkey breast delivered. It was partly defrosted from a frozen joint.I phoned customer service, as I know Farmison also sell a frozen version. I thought I'd been sent the wrong one in a packing error (another item was missing entirely). Paul in Customer services was very nice but put in the unfair position of being a go-between between me telling him one thing (ie what I was seeing and feeling with my own eyes and hands) and people at Farmison telling him something else. Namely that: quote"our fridges are much colder than a conventional fridge (around -8c). This means the meat is in the process of chilling between it's freezing point. Food is considered frozen after the -12c point, however, the aim of chilling is to store products low enough in temperature to reduce the growth of bacteria, but high enough to avoid ice crystal growth. I have been assured by them that you are absolutely fine to freeze your Turkey Breast which was supplied."unquoteBy this time I had tried to cut the so-called fresh turkey into portions to freeze as I had originally planned. It was completely frozen throughout the middle. Ice crystals came away on my hands. The middle was solidly frozen; the outer parts mostly defrosted. I shall not re-freeze it as that would be dangerous. The only good thing is that I didn't just assume it was fresh and cook it today. Cooking partly frozen turkey is not a healthy idea.I'm shocked to read on Trust pilot that others have also been given the spiel about frozen being fresh, though with variations on what Farmison claim their chiller cabinet temperatures are.I shan't buy from Farmison again. I feel they can't be trusted.
