Stainless steel sifting litter boxes are hard to find, and this is the best one I could get a hold of! That said, the design of the three tray version is lacking. The solid trays were not designed to be nested together. Doing so naturally creates a vacuum, which makes it almost impossible to lift the middle tray without the bottom tray also coming with it. In order to make it easy to pick up the middle tray during cleaning, there needs to be a pre-existing gap between the middle and bottom trays that allows air to circulate between them while they’re stacked together. The simplest solution would be to build into the shape of the trays small protuberances just under the lip. Instead, the designers of this product decided to include separate pieces that the consumer attaches to the trays after they’re manufactured. This is a little bit of a pain, but OK.Unfortunately, the pieces that the manufacturers include are little plastic cups that need to be screwed to the lip of each tray. The big selling point of stainless steel is that it is incredibly easy to sanitize or sterilize. Plastic, not so much. And the tiny holes and crevices created by these little cups are a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. To make matters worse, the holes to screw the little cups on are not pre-drilled. Driving the screws provided with the little screwdriver included in the box will almost certainly strip the heads of the screws. Once these plastic pieces are installed, it will be nearly impossible to remove them again without cutting them off. That means that the part of this product that is going to get dirtiest fastest is also impossible to clean thoroughly without getting destroyed. After looking over the design, I threw away the crummy plastic pieces and superglued some acorn nuts to the outside of the trays instead. That works way better.
