Server stability and performance were pretty good. I ran a Project Zomboid server with GPortal for 2 years and for the most part everything was smooth, but when it wasn’t, it really wasn’t.

Their customer support, while friendly and professional (maybe too professional), seemed to only ever use template responses unless the message required something more than an acknowledgement. Trying to get any specific details about what was actually happening with my server was like pulling teeth. The only two answers I ever really got were:

“We have refreshed your server’s connection”

“We have moved your server to new hardware, please change your IP and port”

Granted, those responses did fix the issues most of the time, until recently, when my server started having issues restarting. It would take 30+ minutes to restart, with no zomboid server logs being created during that entire window, and the server would go into “maintenance” several times during the restart process. It went on like this for awhile but this never got resolved and I was told by their support staff it was a mod issue on my end and that I should research what I'm doing before I do it.

So I then switched to a new server host, migrated my server’s save files + modlist over, and the issue hasn’t happened once. Everything is running smooth and everyone was able to keep playing like nothing happened.

Not to say their support is bad, the vast majority of the time they were friendly and fairly quick to respond. You just won't get much from them unless they can fix the issue with a quick refresh.

One last thing I did want to mention is that Gportal seemed to do weekly maintenance where my server would shut down for 10-20 minutes at random. I would end up making a ticket about it and they would say it was scheduled maintenance. When I would ask if they could add me to an email list for warnings on those forced downtimes, I was told (for 2 years) they it was in the works and sometime soon they would have that functionality.

P.S. Love you ned, you're the best support staff member <3
