In the fluently advert I saw the AI tells the lady that “I really love the smell of it” in the context of a candle is wrong as smell usually means bad smell, so she corrects to “I love the scent of the candle” which to me a native English speaker sounds less natural, usually you talk about “something’s scent” rather than the “scent of something”. Either way the original “love the smell of it” is perfectly reasonable if not 100% natural. The correction to use scent for nice smells is just misleading as that term only works in certain contexts. You wouldn’t refer to scent with food, you’d say that food smells good/nice/delicious… Given that the advert (which you’d assume uses the best examples) is giving misleading advice I really wouldn’t want to use this app.
