GoFundMe has truly been a lifeline for me and my family during one of the darkest seasons of my life.

I am currently navigating a serious health diagnosis, and the emotional weight of that alone is overwhelming. Adding financial uncertainty on top of it felt unbearable. Starting a fundraiser was intimidating. I didn’t know if anyone would respond. I almost didn’t do it.

But the platform made it simple to share my story, and what followed was support beyond anything I expected. Friends, family, and even complete strangers showed up in ways that restored my faith in people.

GoFundMe has helped ease financial pressure so I can focus on my family and what’s ahead instead of constant stress. More than that, it gave me a place to be honest about what I’m going through — and that honesty opened the door for real support.

I set up a GoFundMe for a registered, legitimate charity. I raised the money and donated all of the money to my chosen charity (and have the paperwork to prove it which I've supplied to GoFundMe). GoFundMe have written to me today to say that I have violated the terms of the fundraising and will be refunding donors, thus putting me £700 out of pocket. No offer of dispute resolution, no request to prove that I've paid the charity. This is no way to run a fundraising platform. Bank has confirmed they are not able to legally do this. Think twice before using this platform. Lots of news about their political motivations and biases.
