I rented a car from Goldcar Malaga Airport through Booking.com and feel completely mis‑sold. The voucher talked about a refundable security deposit, but at the desk the story changed. The agent refused my Amex credit card, and because I had no other credit card, said that because I’d use a debit card instead, I had to pay about €100 non‑refundable, and pushed me through the process
I explicitly told her I did NOT want any extra insurance beyond the basic CDW because I have separate excess insurance. She responded “that is fine”, giving me every reason to believe no extra cover would be added. Yet the final contract shows I was charged €268.43; €139 was later refunded as fuel deposit, while €129.43 was kept for “Super Relax”, “Mega Relax Plus” and a premium office fee – products I never heard named or had properly explained during the pick up
This feels like a classic airport counter trick: hide optional insurance inside a made‑up “debit card requirement” and rely on the customer signing under pressure. I will not use Goldcar again and would strongly advise others to be extremely careful, read every line before signing, and be prepared to walk away if they start playing games like this.
The name of the scammer on their desk is Maria Belen, and I feel it is very appropriate to name and shame the various bad people out there who have no moral compass whatsoever and need to be held accountable by the company
