When we returned the car the inspector decided we had stolen the breakdown warning light from the glove compartment. We only use the glove compartment twice. Once to leave the Hire Agreement on collection. Then again to remove the Hire Agreement when we drop off the car. There was never a light there. He then charged us €50. We will check next time. I recommend every one does the same.
Hello, we rented a Citroën c3 from GoldCar Malaga. Upon return, the car was returned in good condition and with a full tank. Despite this, GoldCar contacted us and claimed that it was not full. They unjustly robbed us of €60. They hereby warn everyone against the fraudulent practices of this unserious rental company!!!
I am extremely disappointed with this car rental company’s handling of my deposit.
I was required to leave an extra €139 for a fuel deposit with the assurance that it would be fully refunded if I returned the car with a full tank. I made sure to refuel the vehicle completely before returning it. On the return I made sure to show the inspector the full tank and he confirmed its all ok and I will receive the return contract by email and the refund will be processed automatically. Despite this, the return contract arrived several hours later with a fuel charge and penalty for nearly the full deposit amount!
When raising this with the company they simply said that their system shows that the tank was not full but would not provide any evidence. The lack of transparency and customer care is very concerning.
I would strongly advise future customers to be cautious, document everything carefully (including taking photos of the fuel gauge and receipt), and think twice before renting from this company.

Unexpected charges after approved return – disappointing experience
We returned the car after inspection and it was approved without any remarks. About a week later we received a claim for a rim damage.
Despite disputing the claim in writing and providing documentation, the amount was charged to my card months later while the case was still under discussion. Communication consisted mainly of standard replies that did not address the actual objections.
Based on my experience, I would recommend in forst hand to find another car rental company or being very cautious and thoroughly documenting the car if you choose to rent from Goldcar.
My confirmation email and the website clearly state you can pay the deposit by credit OR debit card.!
But when I went to the office I was told only by credit card.
So at that point the only solution was to pay the ridiculously expensive insurance waiver.
The original booking was for €36 , I ended up having to pay €174 total, plus €125 fuel deposit, there is no car in Lanzarote that costs that amount to fill up !
This was the first time I tried a different company in all the years and after renting over 100 cars in Lanzarote, never again
AVOID THIS RENTAL SERVICE AT ALL COSTS! After returning our rental vehicle at 3am in the same condition we received it, we were charged 650 euros for alleged windscreen damage that did not exist. There was no one available to inspect the car, and now they are attempting to SCAM us for damage we did not cause. Absolutely appalling! This company deserves investigation and should be shut down permanently. STAY AWAY!
I had an extremely disappointing experience with the service. Even though I had an official 'Update of Damage' document signed at pick-up that clearly indicated 'Front Bumper Level 1' as pre-existing damage, they are now attempting to charge me 211.97 EUR for a minor mark on that same bumper. The car was returned at 04:30 AM in complete darkness, and the staff used a tablet and flash to find 'new' marks on a panel that was already documented as damaged. I possess a 4-minute continuous video of the car upon return along with their own initial contract that verifies the damage was present beforehand. This feels like a calculated attempt to defraud customers who may not keep every piece of paperwork. I have already disputed the charge with my bank and reached out to the consumer protection agency. A warning to others: capture videos of every inch of the car at pick-up and return, and retain your 'Update of Damage' forms! The service will attempt to bill you for damage you did not cause.
This incident occurred in Funchal. I had a fully prepaid reservation for a vehicle. Upon arriving at the counter, I was informed that the car I booked was deemed “not suitable for driving in the mountains” and would not be provided. I was pressured to upgrade to a much pricier option. This limitation was never disclosed during the booking process, and when I requested the staff to point out where this was mentioned in the Terms & Conditions, they could not provide any evidence. It felt like a classic upselling strategy based on misleading information. The situation deteriorated further due to the conduct of the staff. The agents communicated in a raised, confrontational tone, displayed visible irritation when they realized we only intended to rent the car for half a day, and acted in a dismissive and unprofessional manner. After I chose to cancel the rental and walked away from the desk, I distinctly heard a male staff member refer to me as “stupid.” This behavior is completely unacceptable, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I would strongly recommend steering clear of this service if you seek transparent pricing and courteous customer support.
The most deceitful and manipulative individuals encountered in this company. They display arrogance and rudeness. They lure you in with low prices, but if you opt out of comprehensive insurance, they will find ways to take your money. I strongly recommend not leaving the vehicle without submitting a return report, as they will attempt to misappropriate the deposit without proving that the damages were your responsibility. The cars are left unattended, making it impossible to document every detail thoroughly, and they will exploit this to scam you.
Regret not checking reviews before booking. Do not book with this service. We're STILL trying to recover our deposit of £120 for toll roads that we never used. An additional £40 for fuel in case we didn’t fill up – which we did and have proof! We will be pursuing this through our bank. They require extra insurance, so the quoted price is misleading. I can't understand why this company isn't under investigation; it feels like a significant money-holding scam and they do not issue refunds. You have to fight for your money. The staff were rude and intrusive. I would never book with this service again. I will provide updates as we continue to fight for our refund. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
