The minimum one star is a positive review, but Goodstack does not merit more than zero. Canva was recommended by one of their investors who appreciated the support for nonprofits program. After reviewing all of the "Canva For Nonprofits" requirements and verification guidance on their website, an application process was started. All of the qualifications were met. The required documentation for a United States 501(c)(3) was clearly understood and no disqualification shown applied. That is where Canva executives made a mistake because they should have described the Goodstack process and what to expect. I'm guessing that they don't fully realize how outsourcing the validation and approval steps can adversely affect company reputation. Thinking that the process would be simple and fast, I entered the artificial intelligence world of Goodstack. An automated system immediately found the Scilight Foundation and an IRS Employee Identification Number. My admin at the scilight dot org email address was also entered. Response one was about not being able to identify me personally, but nothing on the initial application required my personal name. As founder and president of the Scilight Foundation, my name is on every document. So, I uploaded my personal business card and the IRS Determination Letter showing public charity status. Certified 2017 Articles of Incorporation with my name as president were also uploaded. Those articles included statements about purpose and prohibitions regarding foundation activities that conformed with Canva requirements. The next response asked for bylaws because they wanted to review "mission and purpose" even though that requirement had not been seen anywhere previously. I wrote a response that described several Scilight initiatives related to neuroscience research and humanitarian projects to help them understand Scilight purposes beyond anything that is shown in the bylaws. The next response convinced me that I was communicating with a mindless robot. Their request for bylaws was repeated without any reference to what I wrote in my earlier message. My next email from a Scilight domain explained that bylaws describe how an organization is managed. Scilight bylaws include very general mission and purpose statements reflecting what the IRS required in my initial founding documents. Goodstack already had that information. Additionally, I copied criteria from the Canva website and clarified that Scilight was not one of the disqualified organizations shown on their list. Their next several emails were about waiting for my response as though nothing I wrote had been seen. Then I sent another email with a copy of my earlier message. Their next response asked for bylaws again and that was the end of my frustrating journey. Any intelligent human could see that the Scilight Foundation qualified. Goodstack disguises their corporate status by masquerading as a nonprofit with their .org domain. Nothing on that website shows anything about their services to companies like Canva or how they make money. Further research discovered goodstack.io and their sales pitches. "Focus on what matters most and leave the verification process to AI" clarifies that Canva has outsourced their reputation to a very flawed robotic system. The Canva investor who initially recommended this program has been informed; he was surprised and displeased. His call to the CEO at Canva headquarters is probably next.
