We have been signed up with GreenChoice since April 2023 for gas and electricity. With our smart meter, we could track exactly how much we used each month. In November, we realized we were using a lot of gas to heat our home and became concerned about potentially owing money at the end of the year. To mitigate this, we increased our payment by 100 euros through their application.In December, we received a notification from GreenChoice stating they were lowering our payment because, starting January 1, 2024, government levies and grid management costs would change. Consequently, we never paid the increased amount as GreenChoice adjusted our payment based on their rate information and our real data from April 2023 to December 2023.However, we recently had to pay close to 1,000 euros because their calculations, which included the government levies and our yearly usage, showed that our monthly payments had been insufficient. When I called to express our shock, given that they had lowered our payment adjustment when we tried to course-correct, I was told it was due to my lack of understanding Dutch. They claimed I should have realized their yearly consumption estimate was incorrect and that it was my responsibility to contact them.Apparently, I should have understood that when they lowered my increased payment, their data was speculative, and I should have called them to request a payment increase. This was all assuming that in December, they were looking at my data from April and the previous owners' data from January to March. Clearly, I use much more than the previous owners.Oddly enough, when they were courting me to extend my contract in March 2024, with a full year's worth of data, they claimed my monthly payment would be almost 20 euros less than what I was currently paying. I assumed this was due to the government levies causing significant savings and felt proud of my usage. However, now that they've secured my signature, my payment will be 70 euros more than my contract.I don't mind paying for what I use, but the deception to make me feel everything was fine only to catch me off guard is unforgivable. With no recourse left but to serve my two-year term with these snakes, may they step barefoot on Legos every morning for the rest of their lives.
