I received an email well in time to think about renewing with Grove and Dean, and I assumed I still had time to look around (which I wanted to as the renewal price was significantly higher than last year's price, even though I didn't have any claim or change). To my surprise however, around a week before the expiry of my previous policy, it got auto-renewed. Of course, I should have known better - with many companies having 'auto-renew' as a default setting. I have now switched this off, so that I can decide in the future.
