GrubHub's MO is to accept an order and provide a reasonable ETA even when there are no couriers in the area. They then repeatedly push back the ETA so either the food arrives congealed and cold hours later or the restaurant finally closes and GrubHub is forced to cancel the order. Adequate customer service would consist of 1) ideally, not accepting orders they can't fullfil in a timely manner or 2) if an order has already been accepted and cannot be filled on time, providing a full refund. Instead of providing this adequate assistance with existing orders, they hand out discount codes for future orders. This benefits GrubHub more than the customer, since using the discount code means placing yet another order with GrubHub. I am done using their service. From now on, I will be sticking with restaurants that provide their own, independent delivery service and care about retaining their customers enough to treat them courteously.
