Truly awful experience. I have been suffering with gallstones for nearly 10 years. After 10 years of being disbelieved, both by my GP and the hospital, I paid out of my own pocket to get an ultrasound performed privately which showed that I did indeed have gallstones. Since I proved that I had gallstones in September, I have been admitted to St Thomas' for surgery. However, they have been slow, rude and completely unhelpful. They will not respond to me when I write them, email them or phone them and what's worse they won't even respond to my GP's correspondence with them. They gave me codeine but was only told afterwards (when I had none of the pain relief but all of the horrid side effects of the drug) that apparently "30% of people can't absorb the painkiller". I was in that 30% and there is nothing else they can do for pain management. Except there is, they can remove my gallbladder. Something that I have been waiting since September to have even a date for.
