I invested in an off-plan property Gibson Quay through Hartford Capital and unfortunately, the development later entered administration. At no point since then have I received an apology, or any meaningful support regarding my financial loss.
Despite repeated communication, I’ve been met with defensiveness and, more recently, with legal threats — including being falsely accused of posting a separate Trustpilot review that I did not write. No formal complaint was issued to me, no process was followed, and no apology has been given for the accusation. It has added significant stress to an already damaging situation.
The sale was presented in a way that strongly implied security and legal oversight. However, I now realize the deposit I paid was never protected. Like many other first-time or passive investors, I was not fully aware of the risks of unprotected deposits or the potential consequences if a developer becomes insolvent — something I now believe should be a basic part of agent disclosures. In my view, these deals are marketed with more focus on the upside than the risks.
To date, there has been no recovery of funds and no progress communicated. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to seek truly independent legal advice before proceeding with any off-plan investment promoted by this company, and to question whether proper protections (such as deposit escrow) are in place.
