It is nice to have an alternative to the evil behemoth that is Amazon after such a long time but I have a number of issues with the service offered. Having to pay for pre-orders straight away instead of at the point of dispatch, how difficult it is to cancel an order (having to email and ask then having to wait for a refund), lack of updates on delayed or out of stock items, the fact that they insist on shipping everything in separate parcels so the order arrives piecemeal or in an avalanche of small parcels. My main concern though is the apparent lack of concern for the condition of the items that they send out. So far I have had one item with the case badly splintered which I then had to take in to my local branch to exchange and on the most recent occasion my copy of a large complete series box set had been crushed such that several discs had come loose from their trays and been forced on to the opposite spindles. It really is very hit and miss whether the items you order arrive intact. I am keen to keep buying from HMV as we need more shops that are independent of Amazon and they have good value sales and special offers and offer things that I can't get elsewhere but these issues are limiting the level to which I can use them.
