Rip off in every possible way

I took out insurance with Halifax for my car with my husband as a named driver. About a week later, Halifax Insurance contacted me to say there would be an additional £293 to pay because there had been a claim in my husband's name. Looking at the date of the claim, it became apparent this related to an accident one of my husband's employees had had a few months previously. My husband was wrongly named as the driver. Several fraught phone calls and emails later, we managed to correct the central insurance records, so the accident was correctly recorded in his employees name. I then received a letter from Halifax asking me to 'urgently' contact them (apparently not so urgent they would answer the phone in less than 25 mins). The call centre operator started by saying the proof we'd send that my husband wasn't driving wasn't adequate because it was emailed. When I pointed out that Halifax Insurance had asked me to email the proof, she went quiet and then came back and said it was ok, she had updated the records to say my husband wasn't driving. She then started asking all kinds of questions about the accident my husband's employee had had. I told her it was irrelevant - he was a named driver on a commercial policy held by my husband, and my husband was a named driver on a domestic policy I held. But she kept banging on about the accident and how it impacted on our policy. When I asked whether she was going to refund the £293 extra they took from my credit card, she said because of an accident that someone not on our policy had had (not even his fault, by the way) they would only be refunding £79!! Just baffling, nonsensical bureaucracy. I told her to cancel the policy from midnight. Apparently that wasn't possible. The policy could be cancelled immediately (that minute) but could be cancelled from midnight the following day. Oh, and the refund for the whole policy would take 8 days. Really wish I'd looked at all the other awful reviews before dealing with this terrible company
