Having walked out of McDonalds with mashed chips under my shoe, I was pleased to find a sparkly and chocolate-free floor in the nearby Hotel Chocolat in Sheffield city centre. Not a chunk, sliver or crumb could be seen outside of the beautifully packaged products – except when a little tray of ‘taster’ chocolates was suddenly presented to me by the lovely Lindsey. I nabbed one, I ate it, I liked it and I asked for another. I ate that one too and I liked it and I asked for another. This cycle could have continued for the next few hours but I was alas informed that there was a limit on generosity that didn’t match the extent of my gluttony. To distract me from consuming more nut and truffle-based chocolates (my irresistible favourites), the amiable Annabelle steered me towards a ‘Velvetiser’ – a sensually provocative name that, given enough time, I could easily have conjured up the image of a service not becoming of a chocolate shop! Swiftly, and perhaps fortunately, the Velvetiser was revealed to be the means of supplying a rather delectable tipple of some liqueur-based drink which had the effect of, well… velvetising me I suppose. Whoever came up with that name deserves a pay rise. And so do Lindsey and Annabelle given their affability, assistance and fortunately for me, patience.Oh, and the chocolates are very nice indeed - considerably nicer than a Mars bar. All in all, the visit into the shop was a pleasurable and personable experience and I preferred spending time in there rather than TK Maxx where I had earlier bought a shirt that had a missing button.
