I spent my magical evening in downtown DC on the phone with HotelTonight.Found a listing on hotel tonight that I thought was good luck-- excellent price in downtown DC, close to everything-- perfect for our very short visit. What a great find! We won't have to stay outside the city, and can have a magical night in town, grab some food, see the White House in the moonlight. Romance and democracy! We drive 250 miles, arrive at 10pm to our parking reservation, walk several blocks to the hotel for the receptionist to say that the booking was canceled and that "they," hotel tonight, were supposed to call me to tell me. I received no phone call, no text message, no email. We were in an impossible situation: the hotel we were supposed to stay in had literally no rooms available, it was late at night, we are unfamiliar with the city. We didn't find a new place to stay until nearly midnight, where we then walked nearly 10 blocks in downtown DC with our rolling suitcases, and didn't get the chance to take advantage of the only rain free moment of our stay, as it was scheduled to pour the next day.We had such a small window of time to experience DC, from 10pm to 1pm the next day, and then to have to use that time to figure out (for a second time that day, mind you) a place to stay and a place to park in the middle of the night? Our plans for the evening literally evaporated as everything was closed (and we tried!)I spent my magical night in DC on the phone with HotelTonight.
