I am encountering difficulties canceling a contract I did not agree to, and the situation seems increasingly dubious. I inadvertently inherited the contract when I bought a property with an existing insurance policy. Towards the end of the term, I got a letter stating it would automatically renew and that I owed them money. Seeing my name on the letter made it clear they had legally transferred it to me. The letter indicates I have the right to cancel within 15 days, starting either from when I received it or when a new contract begins. I reached out for help, but they instructed me to create an online account to cancel the contract there. After creating the account and trying to cancel, I found it unsuccessful. A customer representative informed me that I would need to wait until the new year to cancel the new contract in my name. Since the start of the year, I have been attempting to cancel it, but now it states that cancellation is only possible in 2027, after I am compelled to pay for a full year. Customer support has not responded to my inquiries, seemingly waiting for the 15-day cancellation window to lapse. I also sent a letter but do not expect a reply. While I cannot comment on the insurance quality itself, my experience managing this contract feels like a trap. I desperately wanted to cancel because I already have a non-cancelable insurance policy until 2027 from a bank. I had planned to switch to this provider based on positive feedback from the previous homeowner, but now I am considering legal action.
