I am facing challenges in canceling a contract that I never agreed to, and the situation feels increasingly suspicious. I unintentionally took over the contract when I purchased a property that had an ongoing insurance policy. Towards the end of the term, I received a letter indicating it would automatically renew and that I owed them money. Noticing my name on the letter made it clear they had legally transferred it to me. The letter states I have the right to cancel within 15 days, starting either from the date I received it or when a new contract begins. I reached out to them, but they instructed me to create an online account to cancel the contract there. After creating the account and attempting to cancel, I found it unsuccessful. A customer representative informed me that I would have to wait until the new year, at which point I could cancel the new contract in my name. Since the start of the year, I have been trying to cancel it, but now it indicates that cancellation is only possible in 2027, after I am forced to pay for a full year. Customer support has not responded to my inquiries, seemingly waiting for the 15-day cancellation window to expire. I also sent a letter but am not expecting a response. While I cannot comment on the quality of the insurance itself, my experience with managing this contract feels like a trap. I desperately wanted to cancel because I already have a non-cancelable insurance policy until 2027 from a bank. I had intended to switch to this insurance provider based on positive feedback from the previous homeowner, but now I am considering legal action.
