To IHOP Corporate Representatives and Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding a recent experience at IHOP #1447 located at 5224 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, Texas 77551. On March 27th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., I visited this location and ordered the gluten‑free pancakes—an item I have relied on for years. To my surprise, I was informed by management that IHOP has discontinued all gluten‑free pancakes and waffles nationwide.
These waffles and pancakes were delicious!
For individuals like myself who live with gluten sensitivity, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or Crohn’s disease, this decision is more than an inconvenience. It removes one of the few safe, enjoyable breakfast options available when dining out. Your gluten‑free pancakes were not only delicious, they provided a sense of normalcy and inclusion for customers with autoimmune and digestive conditions. Having that option on the menu made many of us feel seen, valued, and accommodated.
The removal of these items is devastating for those of us with limited food choices. On the night of my visit, the only items I could safely consume were hot chocolate and an omelette—neither of which I had my heart set on. Breakfast restaurants are already challenging for people with dietary restrictions, and IHOP had been one of the few places where we could enjoy something as simple and comforting as pancakes without fear of getting sick.
I respectfully ask IHOP to reconsider this decision. Many restaurants are moving toward more inclusive menus to support customers with autoimmune diseases and food sensitivities. Bringing back gluten‑free pancakes and waffles would not only restore trust, it would reaffirm IHOP’s commitment to serving all guests with care and consideration.
Sometimes a single corporate decision can have a significant impact—positive or negative—on entire communities of people. I hope this message helps convey just how important these menu items were to those of us who depend on them.
Thank you for your time and for considering the reinstatement of these essential gluten‑free options. I am requesting a representative to please contact me at the number provided in my message sent to your company. My question to your executives is “Are you listening to your consumers?”
Sincerely,
Terrie S.
