Thinking about buying a first class ticket with Iryo, think again! Riding with my two children on a tuff travel day, traveling with a gluten free allergy and a child who easily gets motion sick and threw up on our last train ride in from Paris. I never purchase first class anything but this once decided to pay a significant amount more to ensure my kids would get a good dinner, ensure we are not riding backwards, avoid the vomit episode we had a few weeks ago l, we had a lot of luggage so extra help and first car! Yes, please! We selected our meal by photo upon purchasing our ticket and all got the meat and potato option, frankly the others did not look appealing. I had some questions about the ticket process and the site says available for calls 24 hours - yet I could never get a person on the line and had to go down in person to confirm the seats were riding forward direction. All good! Here is how it actually went down: 1st car is actually the last car and you have to walk to the end - no saying steps here. After paying to take the longest walk, we get in to find we, incredibly, were assigned backward facing seats, no joke! And the meal they had recorded was wrong, giving my kids something they would never eat and or couldn’t. What!?! In speaking with the “manager” there is absolutely nothing this train line will do to rectify the situation. After not answering their phone to assist - then their in person staff was a fail, nothing - they just do not care. I turned back my meal and we had to walk to the other end of the train to buy meals for everyone again; fun, no gluten free option at cafe. They would not even give us a credit at their train cafe - Que maleducados!! By the way - there is no reliable internet and absolutely Z-E-R-O reason to pay the extra dough for first class - not only do they get everything wrong and offer NO customer assistance, the seats in the other classes are so similar the only obvious difference is the color. The ride was smooth and the train is just as clean as the renga. Could not be more disappointed in Iryo! Not only, after extra effort to ensure all went well and they got everything wrong. Worse their “management” did nothing and likely is given zero power to correct their mistakes. Other staff members, not the ones in first class felt confident they main office would reimburse - not holding my breath but will let you know.
