The pickup process took quite a while because there was only one employee serving customers at the Pisa Airport office. The staff member was professional and polite, but I experienced a significant issue regarding payment and insurance.
I was informed that my Visa card could not be accepted because it was a Visa Debit card rather than a traditional credit card. I do also own a traditional credit card, so this situation could easily have been avoided if the requirement had been clearly communicated during the booking process. I had already made a prepayment with my Visa Debit card and arrived well prepared with all documents printed and my cards ready.
As a result, I was required to purchase an additional insurance policy from Italy Car Rent in order to proceed with the rental. We had already booked a complete “care-free” insurance package in advance, but this insurance was not accepted at pickup.
In the end, I was effectively forced to buy another insurance policy in order to complete the rental. From my perspective, this felt like a very questionable business practice. Unfortunately, I would not recommend Italy Car Rent based on this experience.
