A Derisory Offer to replace my damaged case

I came back from Italy on BA landing at Gatwick.My case came through baggage reclaim with the handle and works ripped out. I reported it to BA who use K2 Global.Eventually they have offered me £17, yes £17 to replace my case. The reason being it is over 5 years old!. Didn't matter that it was in perfect condition and part of a set. I don't intend to let it rest. It will cost a lot more than £17 of their staff time if they do not make a reasonable offer to replace my case.
