I have had a survey carried out by Kenwood, they use damp meters, they are designed to work in wood not plaster or brickwork. They quoted for hacking off the plaster and rendering with sand/cement type mix and a chemical DPC. They also said that the floors should be lifted and all the old 100 year dry timber treated for woodworm! I then had a recommended company carry out the same and they found no evidence of damp or timber infestation. I fact they found the walls had had a sand/cement render previously applied and the floor fit the property is nearly 1 metre above ground. There is no smell of damp, mould, discolouration. If you google in damp meter scan you will see that there are three British Standards that state they are not suitable for measuring damp on plaster or masonary, you need to do carbide testing. The country particularly London is awash with the damp meter scare resulting in unnecessary bills.
