Guy Patterson
Kia - Southend

Over the past two years, I have repeatedly returned my car to Kia Southend due to an oil leak, which causes me to use approximately 4-5 liters of oil per month.Despite my efforts, Kia has failed to resolve this issue each time. On several occasions, I provided a photo from an external mechanic showing where the oil was leaking while replacing my brake pads. However, I was told that the Kia technical team would conduct their own investigation, and my photo was never forwarded.Kia staff informed me they wanted to keep my car for a few days because they noticed a leak either in the transmission or the sump. They indicated they would need to strip the engine to determine the exact source of the leak. When I picked up my car days later, I was told they had only replaced the valve cover gasket again, which had already been replaced about two months prior. As I drove out of the garage, I immediately noticed the car felt different and shaky. Due to other commitments, I couldn't return that day. The following morning, when I took the car out, it broke down, leaving me stranded on a main road with my kids inside. The AA came and performed a quick diagnostic, revealing no compression in cylinder 2.I had my car towed back to Kia, and suddenly the staff began requesting my entire service history, which had not been an issue regarding the oil leak. I provided all the service history I had but was told I wasn’t covered. When I mentioned the car's changes after the recent work, a staff member responded, “It could just be a coincidence.”Throughout the investigation, I received conflicting information about checking injectors and the coil pack, which seemed irrelevant to the compression issue. After nearly four weeks, I was informed that a valve had been damaged. However, I was never given a reason for the damage, which cost me £1,320 to repair. They stated this wasn’t covered because they would have checked the valves under the 60,000-mile service, which I have yet to complete. I believe this is incorrect, as it is not stated on the Kia maintenance schedule.I have been forced to sell my Kia, as the car, while now drivable, still has the persistent oil leak. I know it’s only a matter of time before it ends up back in the garage.
