Originally, we chose to hire Kitchen Tune-Up because as a military family we like to support veteran owned businesses and we thought one veteran would be honest with another veteran. When David Lawrence came for our initial consultation, he represented this company as one that would provide craftsmen using state-of-the-art technologies and a process that involves minimal downtime. We feel that this is a case of over promising and under executing. They worked on our project for six weeks which was not within the original 20 days promised. As we struggled to hold them to a quality standard, they became more and more argumentative. Although the contract only calls for a down payment and a final payment upon completion to the customer’s satisfaction, they demanded their final payment when we did not consider the work complete. When we declined to pay the full amount of the final payment, (suspecting we would never hear from them again) David Lawrence threatened us with a lien against our house and that he would call a lawyer. We said go ahead and David and Darren started yelling that we complain too much and that we were the worst customers that they had ever had. David Lawrence claimed that he needed our payment to make payroll and pay vendors. We gave a partial payment and they returned several times to finish the work. We have since made the final payment. The painting of the kitchen and the cabinets were far below par. Constant call backs to improve the quality. We had to purchase the paint and they didn't seem to know how to follow the directions for use. We have three sections of our counters that were to have granite. During the first installation of the granite, all three pieces were cut unevenly and too short. The countertops had to be replaced. The second replacement granite was installed off center. David Lawrence insisted that was warranty work and he considered that part of the project complete. We did not believe him (especially since no warranty document had been provided at that time) and requested Mega Granite return and make the proper adjustment. He always seems to have trouble connecting with Mega Granite or getting them to call him back which resulted in further delays for our project. Mega Granite did come a third time and straightened out the countertop. The granite opening for stove also required adjusting.
