The directions were well written and easy to follow. I also love the different modes and the battery option. My two cats watched me put it together. One cat drank from it immediately. The other cat was more cautious. The old fountain just had constant water flow, so Smokey was a little confused when I used the motion sensor mode. But it only took about 5 minutes before she was drinking too. I took a video but unfortunately don't see a way to attach it here.
