After using a fairly flexible, more casual cycling shoe for my reentry into cycling, I wanted to try a higher-performing, stiffer shoe. After considering a few options, I decided to buy some Lake Cycling MX21Gs. I used Lake’s measuring process and online selection tool, which recommended a 40 Wide. I’ve never thought of myself as having particularly wide feet, and decided to try the MX21Gs in a 40 regular instead. Those shoes fit, but my right pinkie toe felt a little pinched. I wore the shoes indoors for a few hours while working and they seemed to get better, but I wasn’t convinced it was the right size. So I ordered the 40 Wide. Shame on me for not trusting Lake’s recommendation! The 40 Wides fit so much better, no hotspot on my right pinkie toe! I finally got cleats mounted and went for my usual 15-mile gravel ride and LOVE the MX21Gs. The full carbon sole is so much stiffer than what I had been using, so I feel like power transfer is better. Plus the shoe was comfortable from first pedal stroke to the last…not bad to walk in, either. I like the classic good looks of the shoe, as well as the more traditional lacing system. 10/10 would recommend, especially for people wanting a classically styled shoe that offers contemporary performance.Shout out to Sean, who answered my questions promptly and walked me through the return process.
