Why operate a ticket office without proper staffing?

Why would a ticket office operate without having a receptionist? This office keeps you on hold for an eternity, unlike any other travel service. From the moment I purchased tickets, my experience was challenging. They claimed my flight was unconfirmed by the airlines and demanded an additional $35 per person. The issues didn't end there; I bought four tickets without being asked for scanned IDs, resulting in a spelling error on one of the names. Such minor mistakes seem to be an opportunity for extra charges. After addressing the error, I began a long wait for a response, which only increased my stress as my flight date approached. Eventually, I managed to communicate with an employee via email and explained the situation. Their initial response was that they couldn't resolve the issue and advised me to contact the airline, who then referred me back to them. It felt suspicious since they were the ones selling the tickets. After more waiting and emailing, they informed me that they spoke to the airline and wanted me to pay a hefty fee to correct the name. Avoid this service at all costs; I wish I had checked reviews before making my purchase.
