I visited this leisure centre and asked at the front desk whether I could try out the gym facilities. I was told that I could not try the gym, but that I could instead make use of their £10 joining fee for the first month as a way to see if it was suitable.
Based on that advice, I went home and signed up online, then attended the gym the same day. Upon walking in, I immediately realised it was far too busy for me. I left within minutes and cancelled the membership online that same day.
Despite this, I later received an email stating that the membership requires one full month’s notice, and that I would therefore be charged the standard £40 monthly fee for the following month, bringing the total cost to £50 for what amounted to a very brief visit.
My cancellation was recorded as taking effect on 28/02/2026, despite the account being both created and cancelled on 27/01/2026. At no point during the online sign-up process, nor when speaking to staff, was it made clear that joining under this promotion would still commit me to a second full month at the standard rate, even if cancelled immediately.
I raised this with a staff member (Louella), explaining that the notice period and financial implications were not clearly communicated, and that charging a further £40 after a same-day cancellation felt unreasonable given the circumstances.
I was also sent an email stating that failure to pay would result in the matter being passed to a debt collection agency, which felt disproportionate for a membership that was cancelled on the day it was created.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a genuine “try before you commit” option. The sign-up advice and cancellation terms were not transparent, and the charges were unexpected.
