I suspect it has to do with the fact that this colorway keeps selling out and they’re trying to reproduce it so quickly that the quality is being sacrificed. I’ve had to frog hundreds of stitches and rewind a second cake to get the colors right because the yarn turned thin and hard and I thought it would sort itself out so kept crocheting. It made my afghan flimsy and “hard” and clearly those rows had thinner yarn than the first cake, which was perfect. Now my second replacement cake is starting to do the same thing. A gift that should have been completed is still not completed because I’m frogging again and had to order more Meowth colorway Bonus Cakes and wait for shipping. I’ve never had an issue like this with Lion Brand. They’ve been a solid yarn for me to use for decades. This was so disappointing and I can’t have been the only one.
