I rented a bike through a rental platform and faced a highly unsatisfactory experience. I paid €86 upfront (around €66 for the bike and approximately €20 in platform and insurance fees). Shortly after picking it up, the bike felt unsafe — the steering was pulling in different directions, requiring significant effort to correct, which is dangerous in urban traffic. I returned the bike immediately and contacted the platform with photos, a video, and a detailed explanation. The owner claimed the bike was fine. The platform stated they were merely the intermediary and that the payment had already been sent to the owner. As a result, they refused to refund the rental amount and only offered to return about €18-20 in fees as a 'goodwill' gesture. I believe that returning an unsafe bike right away should not mean incurring rental charges. This experience made it clear that customer protection can be quite limited in peer-to-peer rentals. I will not be using this service again.
